Over several years, I worked across a broad range of AFL Play Schools initiatives, designing educational resources that engaged students, supported teachers and promoted participation in Australian Rules Football nationwide.
Working from the AFL Play Schools brand framework, I helped expand and apply the visual language across a growing ecosystem of educational resources. This involved translating the brand into a wide variety of formats while maintaining a consistent and engaging experience for different audiences, from primary school students through to educators and school leaders.
My work included virtual classroom presentations, interactive LMS courses, illustrated fitness cards, teacher guides, worksheets, marketing campaigns and digital learning assets. As the program evolved, I contributed to the development of additional graphic elements, layouts, illustration systems and supporting assets that helped extend the visual identity across new initiatives.
The result was a cohesive suite of curriculum-aligned resources used by schools across Australia, demonstrating how thoughtful design can support learning outcomes, increase engagement and create a consistent experience across multiple channels and age groups.
Virtual Classrooms
To support AFL Play Schools' nationwide education initiatives, I designed a series of virtual classroom experiences that connected students directly with AFL players and ambassadors through live, interactive learning sessions. The program included separate learning pathways for lower and upper primary students, ensuring content, activities and messaging were tailored to different age groups while remaining aligned with curriculum outcomes. Alongside the presentation design, I developed a national marketing campaign to promote the program to schools across Australia and created a range of engaging visual assets that brought the AFL Play brand to life throughout the experience.
The virtual classroom series achieved record participation from schools across Australia, providing students with engaging, curriculum-aligned learning experiences delivered alongside AFL players and ambassadors. By combining educational content with interactive design and real-world sporting role models, the program successfully increased engagement and helped connect more students with AFL Play Schools initiatives nationwide.
Fitness Cards
As part of the AFL Play Healthy Kicks program, I designed a series of 25 different illustrated fitness cards that encouraged Foundation to Year 6 students to incorporate movement into their daily routine. The resource was developed as a flexible classroom tool, allowing teachers to easily integrate short physical activities into the school day while supporting a range of fitness outcomes including mobility, strength, cardio and balance.
The project involved developing a consistent visual system across the entire card set, combining custom illustrations, clear instructional layouts and age-appropriate communication to ensure each activity could be understood at a glance. Designed for use by individuals, pairs or groups, the cards needed to be engaging, accessible and adaptable to a variety of classroom and sporting environments.
The final resource formed part of the broader AFL Play Healthy Kicks initiative, helping teachers deliver engaging movement-based learning experiences while encouraging students to build healthy habits through play.
